Craigslist Scammer Help!?
I recently made a huge mistake by getting in touch with a scammer. I was told they were going to send me a check which they did and I were to cash it and send some back. When I brought the check to the bank it was confiscaded and they told me that it was a scam and not to get in contact with them again. The only think is that they keep contacting me over and over again asking where the check is and if I cashed it and when it will be with the 'shipper'. They also told me they were told to contact the CIA and stuff which I know they really wouldn't. But I was told not to write back but they keep bothering me. What should I do?

Block their number, go to the bank and tell them about this person. Then, call the cops and notify them about this person's account. Also, get into contact with Craigslist. They'll make sure the scammer won't be able to contact you anymore.
As long as you didn't give them any personal information, you're ok.

Tell them the check is at your local police station and they need to go in person with a copy of their ID to prove they are a legal signatory on the account to pick it up. Give the address of your local police station and phone number and make up the name of a supposed detective. They are in Africa or Eastern Europe anyway so it's not like they are going to check it out
The CIA wouldn't get involved in a check scam - the CIA investigates terrorism
You should also change your email address as they will keep contacting you and targeting you with new scams

Hello, most likely these scammers are from Nigeria. They commonly defraud people, especially online sellers, by asking them to accept a check or more frequently, money orders in exchange for an item. Commonly, these scammers would pay more for overnight shipping which should raise a red flag. If I were in your position, I would proceed to filing a police report and then ignore them. You were defrauded, and they're the suspects, so there is nothing to worry about now.

Talk to your bank and thank them,if they would not have been on the ball and would have cashed the check it could have been 10 days till you found out about it.You would have had to pay back the money. That's not a maybe that's a fact, you are responsible for any check you cash.Do you know how many people have found that out the hard way. It's not like if a thief uses your credit card number and there are laws that help you.If you cashed the check it would have been on you.You can reply to the scammers and tell them the police have the check for them to contact the police. That will end it.Or don't bother telling them nothing.
