hello so i've had a crush on this guy for almost three years and he goes to my school now and we have a lot of mutual friends ((as i type this i'm sounding stupider and girlier oh my god)) so we are around each other a lot. i got introduced to him around the end of last year ((october/november)) and then he left school for a while and came back maybe two or three months ago. i've never said hi to him after we were introduced and now it's super awkward. if this was anybody else i would just say hi and make things amazing and have a cool friendship because i don't really care but i've liked him for a long time. not to mention he's really quiet and shy and i only see him after school when all of our friends hang out. at this time he usually has his headphones in so on top of it being awkward, he wouldn't even be able to hear me if i said anything. we both have twitter accounts and follow each other and ((i don't know if any of you know what a retweet is)) but we retweet each other and the other day we were tweeting lyrics with each other. we both have the same music taste for the most part, however he is having issues with his on/off girlfriend. i kinda just really want to be friends with him and talk in real life and via twitter and i've been debating sending him a direct ((private)) message for so long it's beginning to become unhealthy. my friends have been telling me to just do it but i don't want to make things more awkward than they already are. i have no confidence whatsoever and i hate my appearance so it's not like my self esteem could really get any lower but i'm excessively indecisive so it would be nice to get some advice from people who don't know me or could see how ugly i am. i've thought about talking to him in real life and via twitter multiple times but chickened out due to a lack of words so if you know what i should tell him it would be appreciated ((thanks if you actually read this girl pathetic crap)) (((he's a sophomore i'm a freshman and his ex/girlfriend is in the eighth grade))) he's so shy and cute and by his tweets it seems like he isn't confident with himself but i don't know why omfg okay bye

Sounds like you're moving as fast as you need to. No need to rush things at this point. If he has a girlfriend (or an ex. that keeps coming back), might as well wait for them to break up for good.
