I've liked the same guy for 12 years?

Met him first when we were 12. Had a crush on him. Now we are 24

See him a few times over the years. Twice when he was drinking he's messaged me on facebook saying he likes me and wants to hang out. Then gets embarrassed the next day and I don't hear from him again?

Last night at his sisters function/party he avoids me all night, then as I leave hugs me goodbye.. twice (because the first one wasn't 'good' enough) then no joke says Love you and if I sell him my pony he will take me on a date (i have a pony but I think he just said it as a joke to take the edge off the date thing?)

Then as I walk out his mum says he likeees you.

So it's the next day after the party and I'm really confused. My mum said do not talk to him at all until he approaches you. But i'm scared he's embarrassed again and thinks i don't like him or thinks he scared me off. I don't know.

So would it be better to talk to him or hold out until he talks to me?

Approach him, he's too unconfident to approach you.
