Internet Connection Sharing disconnects my laptop from the internet?
Alright so I have 2 PC's and a laptop in the house. I have one PC down in the basement which is connected to the modem/router.The other PC is upstairs in my room which has no internet connection since there is no phone jack in my room. And the laptop is also in my room. I turned on ICS on the laptop and connected an ethernet cable from my laptop to my upstairs PC. But whenever I activate ICS, my laptop gets unidentified connection and is blocked off from the internet. How can I solve this so my PC can get internet connection while upstairs?

You are connecting your laptop to your system upstairs which doesn't have an internet connection. That's the problem.

You need to turn ICS on the computer downstairs which is connected to the modem. Also you need to make sure that you have an additional network card in your computer downstairs because you will need to run the cable from your laptop to the computer downstairs for ICS to work.

The easier way around all of this and not having to run a large amount of cable is buy a wireless router. Your modem would plug into the router and then you can run a cable from your computer downstairs to the router.

Then you would need to configure the router for wireless connection (provided your laptop has wireless built in) and it would work. Also if you go that route, you can also get a wireless network card for your computer upstairs so it would also have an internet connection.
