Windows 8.1 vs Windows 8.1 Pro?
I have decided to get Windows 8 for my new PC build but I can't decide whether to get Pro or not. I will be using my PC for mainly gaming, watching YouTube, storing files and watching movies (some DVD ones too) I know that the Media Center pack is only for t he Pro one but I've heard you can still watch DVD's with a 3rd party program. I probably wouldn't mind the Metro menu, since I can use a program to disable it. I need to know which would suit me better.

If you can afford Pro then I would recommend you go for it. However, the Standard edition is almost exactly the same apart from the media centre pack.

You can play games on both, YouTube can be watched on either using your browser of choice (I use Google Chrome), Storing Files can be done on both and Movies can be watched on both. On Pro it will use the media centre pack as the default player for DVDs, while on both the Standard and Pro editions there is the possibility of using Windows Media Player which is the natively supported media player.

I personally would just buy the Standard Edition since it is cheaper and does almost exactly the same thing.

P.S. I didn't really like the metro interface when I first saw it, but since I got Windows 8.1 I have come to love it and would highly discourage you from disabling it with a 3rd party program Smile

windows 8.1 is the updated version,if you remember Windows Vista was released back in 2007, it didn’t do well in the market and two years later, Microsoft released a polished version of Vista and named it as Windows 7, which went on to become the highest selling operating system in the history. The only major difference (leaving aside features) between Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 is that Windows 7 wasn’t a free update to Vista users and Windows 8.1 is absolutely free to all Windows 8 users. Here is difference between 8 and 8.1 see the chart.

I have used Win8/8.1 for over a year now and I have never felt that I should have gotten the Pro. The standard will do just fine.
