Is it safer to ask a girl for her Facebook than her number?

Like when you're interested in her? I recently approached a girl that I had bumped into a few times on campus in the past and asked for her name and introduced myself and we chatted and walked for a bit and then I had to go so I asked if she had a FB. I figured this would be safer and more comfortable than asking for her number since we just formally met but I still wanted to keep in touch with her. She said yeah and took her phone out and added me right there, which seems good. What do you all think? Is FB a better idea than number in general?
