Natural light and (I know it's lame but) bathroom lighting are the most flattering for your face. Hold your hand as far away as possible from your body, careful for it not to show in the pic or use the timer. People always look a little better when the head is tilted to the side than when they look straight forward at the lense. Do not do the duck face. Smile instead. Just try different poses and angles to find flattering ones for you because everyone is different. If it still looks bad, you can make it black & white or play with exposure, saturation and contrast on photoshop.
Good luck Big Grin

Wear a cup, covers eye bags. But try not to cover your eyes/eyebrows so that your face can be seen well.

Use a proper camera, not a phone or a tablet.

Even a cheap point and shoot will do. Put it on a tripod, use the self timer to fire the shot, or enlist the help of a friend - do not hand hold the camera yourself. Make sure you are about 2 metres from the camera. Use the camera's zoom to frame the shot. For lighting indoors, by a window is a good place. If out doors, avoid direct sunshine, find somewhere in the shade instead. Avoid using flash as the main light source.

AND DON'T DO THE DUCKFACE!!!

Use a proper camera mounted on a tripod and triggered remotely.

DO NOT
Use a wide angle lens 12" away from your face

You cannot take a good selfie at arms length. The lens angle is too wide and will distort the facial features that close.
You will have to get someone else to photograph you from about 6 feet away.

Theres no proper way. Just find the place n your house w/the best lighting n the best position n take a few shots there. For bathroom pics, if u have a lamp or a secondary portable light source that helps alot as well
