What does a # mean on Twitter?
Sometimes in tweets people put a # before a word and it turns it into a link, but I'm not sure what the link is?

It means it's a Tending Topic (TT). On your homepage look to the right and there's a column of things that are popular in the world. People add the # to try and make it a TT or keep it a TT. Like if I wanted Yahoo to be trending I would go #Yahoo.
