Why do I have a bad connection? Is there anyway to improve it?

When playing games like call of duty it always seems like I have a bad connection. I could be basically up someone nose shooting them, but they somehow manage to kill me before I can get even a single hitmarker.

I'm on BT Fibre Optic and my normal connection speed on my laptop is 72mps.

you can get a graphic card for your pc or you can upgrade your ram
