Share internet connection ?
I have a network with 2 computers and a router. One is windows 98se the other is Xp. The windows 98se is connected with a wireless network adapter and the windows Xp is connection with a cat5e cable. I have dial up Internet because high speed is not avalible in my area. I tried running the network setup wizard and it got file and printer sharing setup but the internet connection sharing won't work it always says the page can not be displayed. I also tried using a proxy but it did the same thing.
I have an internet connection setup and I know sharing dialup will be slow.

You probably have the wrong type of router...

You say you have dial up, so what is the router doing?

The object of a router is to share the internet connection, so you must get a dial up router! When the router makes the internet connection via a dialup modem, IT controls sharing by your other PC's...

The problem is...
I haven't seen a dialup router in about 10 years!

Most are now designed for use with DSL, Cable, etc.

I know Trendware used to make one, as did SMC...

See the links below...

But I think you will have a problem trying to find this obsolete technology today!

You're on the right track, but if you split a 56k connection, both computers will suffer.

Get DSL or Cable (or try finding a wireless hotspot) and connect with that.

You need to set up a connection.
You have the network shared, but you still need to set up the connection that Internet Explorer needs to share.
BTW: Dial Up will not work well with networking well at all. It will be SLOW and simple pages (like this) will take a very long time to load.
In Internet Explorer, click "tools" then click "Internet options" then click "Connections" set up a connection there.

I have set up two machines through a network to share a dial up connection. One was windows 2000 and the other was windows 98 se. I had to set up the machine with the modem as a server with the internet access shared with the other machine. I had to have the machine with the modem turned on and connected to the dial up service to connect with the other machine. It sounds like you already have network connectivity, you will just have to set your internet as a shared resource.
