How do you determine your internet speed?
I think I'm paying too much for my internet, or at least I don't think I'm getting what I should be getting for what I'm paying. Despite not watching videos or downloading anything I seem to go over my usage about half way into the month, I use the internet a lot but I'm confused as to how it can get so high one month then be absolutely fine the next. The biggest issue for me is the speed, I'm sure it should be a lot faster than what I'm seeing - I shouldn't be having to wait so long for pages to load.

You would google a site that has a throughput test, like this one:

Often, if you're finding your internet is slow at certain periods its due to high usage within the area.

But to me, this sounds more like that you've gone over your monthly usage policy and they've capped the speed of your internet to stop you from using too much data and having a larger then normal charge at the end of the month, stopping you from complaining that you've got a huge bill is better then you complaining about the speed.

Ideally in this day and age, people don't tend to be on capped internet packages, normal packages with unlimited services are extremely cheap these days, and unfortunately again, if you are say getting 20MB speeds, but paying for 60MB there is nothing you can do about that, the packages clearly state "Up TOO" not EXACTLY. Due to this, you are forced to pay more money for a Fibre line to get higher speeds, revert back down to a 20mb package and you'll receive far less then 20MB on that particular line.

Call your provider and switch your package. You'll save money.

Check your speed with one of the sites above each week during the month.
Check with your ISP to see what package you are on.
Consider getting an unlimited one. They are really good value now.
Take a look at Plusnet if you are in the UK.

Good luck
