Tips on disconnecting myself from technology?
I would adore a life where I could get rid of all pieces of technology and be disconnected from the world. If it wasn't for those highly important moments of communication (such as emergency situations) I feel I would most definitely do it. I feel people need to mellow out and realise what is surrounding them more rather than being distracted by many kinds of social media. I agree, some kinda of media is important such as the news, however.
My question is about ways in which I can get about living such a lifestyle yet still be contactable if seriously necessary. I'm considering challenging myself to a month or two without a phone or use of social media sites. However, I can see the con to this being the emergency contacting situation. Anybody have any ideas? You just lose the facebook, twitter, smartphone etc. easily.
If someone needs to contact you in an emergency they can use a telephone. Ads |

Back up your data to a drive that will connect via one media editing/playing tele-connected device, put what you want online [cloud], and only upgrade that device for compatibility's sake, Then use e.g. the spin-off from Music Magpie for electronic items and/or cash convertor type shops to recoup money spent on the extraneous items you have and take it from there.
Stick to just one social network and use it rather as a telephone with built in directory and email editor, no matter how much you interact, this is essentially it's purpose from 'back in the day' [before the social network phenomenon] and what remains valid throughout. Always properly compose messages like they are letters - even learn letter writing - and use a local email client so you can also back up this more valued correspondence - the recent chat and tweet style of using the services provided is not to everyone's taste - so perhaps what you aim to have is a more robust level of communication and a preferred way to relate it to people yet still with the access you have with the technology - The rate at which someone's status updates appear is not something to be taken along by, as you cannot truly know the circumstances and emotions without being there; so all told, any matter of concern would prompt you to make a call and have a meaningful conversation - where 140 characters is not sufficient. All the tools are already there though, you do not necessarily need to upgrade, maybe a download is required and setting up accounts so you get locally saved archives - then you can amass the more valued and timely conversation threads. - I consider this answer to be my 'chat' style of writing and I often need this much space for every post. |
