My laptop prefers LAN over WiFi. How to make it prefer WiFi?

I have both LAN and WiFi connections. When I connect my LAN wire to my laptop (Windows 8.1) it prefers LAN over WiFi. I tried Control Panel>Network and Internet> Network and Sharing Center>Change Adapter Settings>Advanced>Advanced Settings option but still it connects to LAN...
@Tracy: LAN is provided by college hostel (so facebook/twitter and may other sites are blocked) which is much slower for using internet (but it is good for sharing files over LAN Network). And WiFi is faster and nothing is blocked on it...

Why would anyone who has easy access to ethernet connection even want the wifi to be primary? It is slower, not as secure, and connects to the same system? All windows machines will pick ethernet first, if you don't want it using that for Web, take the gateway setting out of the LAN connection!
