Hi,

This is a safe .dll for chrome. It simply allows the ability to play digitally protected video files through HTML5 enabled websites like Netflix for example. It isn't anything to do with hacking or spying or anything like that.

widevinecdmadapter.dll is a Chrome plug-in that allows protected content to be played in a Web page.  It did not install without your permission.  Under the terms of usage to which you agreed —

"The Software which you use may automatically download and install updates from time to time from Google."

The plug-in is simply an update, and Chrome updates itself trequently.  If you wish to remove the plug-in, open Add/Remove Program and uninstall Widevine Media Optimizer Chrome.
