What is the single best search engine optimization (SEO) tool to help position a brand new website on Google?
In the next few days I am posting a brand new website that will primarly feature photography of a particular Canadian province. I am also planning to publish at least one photography poster featuring my work. With these elements in mind, is there a particular SEO tool that I really should work with(?) or is there a set of tools that are considered the absolute best and most valuable?

They're a waste of money. Just let your popularity grow on it's own.
Spread the word to friends, print fliers, post your work on other sites.

James,
I hope your site is simple and well-structured. You understand what I meant. I recommend you submit your site to search engines such as Google after posting it.
Anyway, here is SEO tool that you can take a look for a first start.
Go to http://www.keyworddensity.com where you can check your keyword density and
http://www.webjectives.com where you can check your keyword density and popular link, and you can find the popular keywords (after your site on the www for a while). These two are free.
Other websites you should check them out: http://searchenginewatch.com.

I hope my answer would help you get started.

Sprank was too harsh regarding SEO.

Well SEO is one of the best and cost effective things which you can do with your business and gain lots & lots of popularity.

First step you should do is to look out for keywords using the following tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Search for keywords and you will also find some similar words related to your keywords. Decide on keywords which are most related to your business and do the following activities:

Social Bookmarking - It means bookmarking your website on various Social Bookmarking websites like digg.com, delicious.com, jamespot.com, fanpop.com etc.

Question & Answers websites. Answers questions related to your business and get visitors to visit your website. There are many Q & A websites like Yahoo Answers, Blurtit.com, answerbag.com. yedda.com etc.

Above two will help you get referral traffic and some dofollow links from bookmarking websites will also help you in increasing website popularity.

You can check out main webmaster tools here:
http://www.trafficbuildernow.com/webmaster-toolkit/

But my advice would be for you to start by building links:
- Get a free press release about your company through PR.com
- submit your site link to search engines and local directories,
- create your business profile on your website hosting provider,
- submit to business directories/online yellow pages

Also, make sure your content has the right keyword - say 'photos of Toronto' or 'sunset in Ottowa' and your metatags are set right.

Hope this helps.

James,

There is no "One Tool" to help position your site on Google. First, if your website is new, you will generally need to wait a bit to start getting rankings.

And FORGET about keyword density, that's garbage SEO stuff and is not a ranking factor. You should use your keyword(s) in your copy, but there is no magic number.

There are a few tools that work well for researching your keywords: Google's keyword tool, Word Tracker's Free Keyword Tool, and Trellian's Keyword Discovery.

Google's webmaster tools, Yahoo Site Explorer and Bing's Web Master Center are all great, and don't forget to frequent SEO forums. If you don't have excel or another spreadsheet program like Open Office that get it.

I hope this was useful.

Thanks,

Dime Promotions is offering free on-site SEO. This is is the first step to getting a website ranked. Even if you have a bunch of inbound links, if Google can't read the website effectively and determine it's subject matter then it won't place.
