let's say i dont submit the blog to search engines, will they see it automatically?

Quite possibly not if you stay quiet, the easy pretty sure to get you indexed is to get links from a few different sites already indexed (which you need for ranking anyway) the search spiders will follow those links and 'discover' your site.

no you have to create back links and promote your website in order to be in the search engine list.
