How do I connect to steam?

I recently purchased a razer edge pro gaming tablet, and I have some games i'd like to play but they require steam. every time I try to connect to steam it says that I can't connect and I need to check my internet connection or there's something wrong with the steam network. i've tried connecting from several locations, school, home, work, friends houses, and nothing works, i don't have any antivirus or firewalls set up yet so i don't think that's the issue. and like I said it's a new tablet and steam came pre installed. anyone have an answer?
