Why am I reciving replies to friend reqaests, when I never sent any?

I may sometimes look at friend, of friends profiles , if they look interesting, though never to people who I don't know.

Yes, FB searh is still private.
If you're not the one who sent the friend request, but you get notification that your request is accepted, that somebody must sent the friend request for you. It can happened when you let your device & FB log in, wide open for your friend to meddling with it or some application do that. Go to your Account Settings ➣ Apps ➣ check whether there's suspicious apk or apk that you no longer use & uninstall it. Check also your "Active Session" (the new name is "Where you're logged in", the last item in Security under Account Settings, also "The Trusted Browser", end/remove whatever is not yours.
