How do some status gets highlighted even though I didn't highlighted it on FB?

I always see random highlighted stories on my wall, well I just thought maybe because they have lots of likes and comments so maybe even though I didn't highlighted them they get highlighted, but I also saw some post that has no likes nor comments get highlighted.

Is it because some of my friends are highlighting it or is it FB itself who randomly highlights stories?

It's a feature that the cowboys at FB decided to introduce. I'm not sure how it is activated or why it was introduced. I hate it and wish I knew a way of turning the feature off completely.

I have to go through and click on the triangle at the top left of each affected section to cancel each one, and then refresh the page to get everything in chronological order again. It seems to happen more with certain of my friends, and I have been experimenting changing the information I subscribe to from these people to see if I can fix the problem.

I don't like the way FB keeps changing almost on a daily basis.
