why do websites with low page rank get to the top of google?
I'm studying SEO and I noticed when searching "nashville photographer" there are websites that come up with 0 page rank that are ahead of pages with 3 page rank.
In particular, one website has 1 page rank and about 10 backlinks (this data according to SEOQuake). It is the 8th website on google and is ahead of websites with 2 and 3 page rank which have more backlinks. Continuing onto page 2 of google there are websites with 3 and 4 page rank and with way more backlinks. Can you explain why this is? There's something I'm missing here. I was under the impression that you backlink to boost page rank to get to the top of google. Is that wrong? What's missing? Ads |

No one has been able to answer that question convincingly, but Google's algorithm uses over 200 signals to decide how to rank a web page. And not all the signals are available to view in ranking reports. so it is very likely that Google may have favored that particular website for other reason than back links, page rank or domain age. The site could have good social signals, load faster or may have a very low bounce rate and so on. but i agree it is some times a mystery how Google rank pages.

Well backlinks are one of factors for positioning in Google. There are over 200 factors for this as - age of domain, quality of site, texts in site, on-page optimization, social signals, etc. You can evaluate them on link below.

It is not depend only on Page rank and backlinks, most of the people will check the backlinks and Pagerank,DA and PA...but Google's algorithm uses over hundreds of signals to give a page rank for any website.
