As a law undergraduate, do I need Facebook?
I don't like Facebook and I'm probably one of the few students at my university that doesn't have it.I've had it in the past and don't really like it. Do I need it for networking e.g. when I meet with representatives from law firms etc?
Thanks spagnolo708. But did you interact with any professionals/professional bodies through it?

I would think that it would be a plus NOT to be on Facebook. Shows you think for yourself and don't follow the crowd.

I needed it for networking among colleagues for college assignments, other people's experiences while interning, advice, serious professional reasons not for social reasons. I found it very helpful.

Of course not. Facebook is for silly stuff, not serious business contacts.

Use Linked-In -- it's like Facebook for work.

i am a law undergrad going into 3rd year studying at a very reputable university.

we have a law school group page which advises us of events and news within the law school. we also have a page where people can raise concerns and discuss anything we wish regarding the law or the law school. i suppose its all on facebook because there are over 1000 students in all 3 years and postgrad, so it is one of the easiest ways to reach people. i am sure your uni will have something the same.

also, i have noticed that the big firms which offer placements advertise on facebook and have their own facebook pages where you can ask for advice in an informal atmosphere etc. regarding advice about the profession, i found a lot of info on their facebook pages. you also recieve regular updates and event reminders on facebook.

so yeh i think it will be useful. just dont post pictures of yourself drunk or drugged up - be sensible with it!

Keep Facebook for personal only (hide everything and be careful who you add)

For work and networking, use Linkedin!
