What can I do to get my boyfriend to realize that he shows no effort?

Lately my boyfriend hasn't put any effort into talking to me. We've been dating for 2 1/2 years. I just want him to realize that he's being an ass. He doesn't bother to pay his phone bill which means we can't talk. We don't have any social media sites, too much drama. If he doesn't talk to me for days without any warning of why he won't be talking to me, I get upset. And because I get upset, he gets upset and sometimes says 'obviously I'm never here for you so do you want to just break up?' Is that fair? What would you do to let him know that I'm not going to be around for much longer if he continues to show no effort and be rude? I want to scare him so he knows I'm not going to put up with any games.

Give him a taste of his own medicine.
If he doesn't care to go days without talking to you then go without talking to him. It's easier said than done but if he doesn't care that you're not responding to him than you're wasting your time.

He needs to know what it's like to not have you in his life and majority of the time they'll get it and show more effort and if not, there's plenty of fish in the sea whose capable of showing you the attention and giving you the respect you deserve.
