How much for wireless internet?

Just moved in to a room without wireless internet. What's the best option for internet for my laptop. If the owner of the house already has internet, does this mean my chance for cable is out?

1) Both cable and satellite say there can be only one installation per household.
2) Not to say you cannot make a deal with the owner to pay some of the internet fee and draw off of it. If it is robust enough. 6 people trying to use 3 MB/sec connection won't work
3. There is wireless internet options, like Clear. Generally suck, but you have the advantage of using them wherever you go, regardless of if wifi available or not.
