To what extent is advertising true?

Well, advertising for something like a drug has to be true, or even condoms or basically anything used for beauty.

In the UK adverts are not allowed to lie.
What they do is miss out the truth.
For example ads for confectionery do not remind you that the product rots your teeth and makes you fat.
Alcohol adverts do not tell you that excessive alcohol intake can cause cirrhosis of the liver which is irreversible.
Canned products are sold as "containing no preservatives." as though that makes them better than other brands. Of course they don't. Canning preserves the food so no brand needs preservatives
Basically anything you are told in an advert can safely be ignored.
