I have had a couple computer towers in the last 5 years.?
elanwhip asked 1 week ago

They are both HP towers!! The one that is a little over 4 years old is going to be checked for a virus--possibly. Otherwise it is going to be cleaned up totally by the person that works on computers in town. Then I purchased another one a little over a month and a half ago at Best Buy. Both of them came from that store. Anyhow--when I bought it--Webroot was installed. Not even 2 weeks after I bought it--I have had problems with it. It froze all the time--I couldn't even get to my home page without closing and restarting it at least twice each time. It was SLOW also all the time. So I called Best Buy and was told it probably has a VIRUS!! I was like--WHAT?? Is that why a person buys an antivirus program?? Especially when it is BRAND NEW?? I had a Gateway years ago--it lasted for MANY years. I had one more that lasted for a lot longer than these last two towers. I only search--read my e-mail--and am on FB off and on. I borrowed an old Dell tower--that is PRETTY slow. I tried to go on FB yesterday--I couldn't do anything at all. So I exited FB!! Sorry this is SOOO long. I am to the point that all I can figure is my modem from Century Link--I never had problems till I got there internet service!! That probably sounds DUMB to computer people. BUT WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE?? PLEASE HELP ME?? I need any and all help I can get!! Others I have talked to have had not problems. I am SICK and TIRED and DISGUSTED!! tHANK YOU VERY MUCH!! wHAT TYPE OF TWOERS ARE DECENT -i USED TO HAVE hp BEFORE THESE TWO AND HAD NO PROBLEM!!

No need to panic. There exists help in the world and the internet universe.

Goto MAJORGEEKS.com (caps not needed). It's a wonderful website where you can get all kinds of FREE programs to help keep your computers clean and safe.

On the left side of MajorGeeks home page, there are tabs of diff subjects. choose the antispyware, and once that page comes up, at top there are other tabs, choose the one that says LICENSE. When that finishes changing, all the free stuff will be listed above what you've got to pay for.

Webroot is good prgram, I used to use it. But you can download for free, SUPERANTISPYWARE, which is extremely good cleaner, even for cookies. When you download it, it will ask you if you want to try their paid version for trial period of 2 wks. CLICK NO, otherwise they'll bug you with ads to sign up for the paid version. I always run my scans at 'complete' setting, QUICK setting doesn't check all areas.

Then......goback to majrogeeks, and download NORMAN MALWARE program. This is a highly effective cleaner, not to be used for normal antispyware. When you start to download it, SAVE IT to your DOCUMENTS and run it from there.
Norman Malware is so good, they update the program and library of viruses every 3 days, but you can use the current program downloaded for about 2 weeks. Then you should download the latest version.
Run this at COMPLETE setting also, ti will take hour or so to finish. It will also clean whatever it finds. I had troubles with my laptops since Aug, and it found stuff that my regular antispyware wouldn't register.

Then thru Majorgeeks, download Wise Disk Cleaner, and also Jet Clean. Both of these programs are free, and are excellent everyday cleaners of registry, temp files, etc. And the work by pushing just ONE BUTTON. No trouble running them.

With these programs, especially the Norman malware, Jet clean, and Wise Disk Cleaner, they should help your computers become easier to run.

Good luck.

Webroot's SecureAnywhere AntiVirus is a poor product that placed 20th out of 26 in av-test.org's most recent tests.  They have declined testing by av-comparatives.org since placing dead last in the Dec. 2012 review.

Scan the computer with the free versions of MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) and SuperAntiSpyware.

Use MBAM first, as it's designed to resist malware that prevent many removal tools from running.  If MBAM cannot be started, however, install the Chameleon utility and review the tutorials.

Deeply entrenched malware can be virtually impossible to remove when Windows is running.  The tool of choice in these cases is the Kaspersky Rescue Disk, which can be in the form of a bootable CD or flash drive.  Because the system boots directly to the Rescue Disk, Windows does not load and the malware is dormant.
