Can a private investigator find my identity via Instagram?
I run anonymous Instagram page. I get threats all the time from people that are upset at what I do. One very disturbing threat tells me they will send me a private investigator to reveal my identity. I have taken certain measures to not reveal my identity. I have a made a different email with fake information. Can a PI still track me down via Instagram. Most of my Instagram posts are done by Ipad. Can a PI still track me down by my IP address and figure out where I live? Or am I just being paranoid?

computers hackers can ping your isp and figure out what county/country you are in and then they can hack your isp and get your info.

The answer is - it can be done - but it isn't easy.

Nothing online is private, so don't do illegal/bad and stuff in general that you will regret later.

Hi Britney,
the basic answer is not directly. Most IP gathering techniques are used by social engineering (interacting with the user, sending them to a personally hosted website via an innocent looking link) then because they're the admin of the site they can review the "hits" and get IP address information from that.

It would be very difficult to get the resources to hack a high profile target like instagram, find your specific information and get out before being noticed.

ensure you dont use any photos of yourself or well known landmarks in your area. These can be uploaded and searched for matches on google images using its upload feature. Ensure you strip out any geotagging information of photos you do upload (Geotagging is when your digital devices, camera phone, camera, etc stores the location information in your photos meta data. If you upload these photos without stripping them out, this information can be extracted from the image itself)

Even if your IP is captured. It will only pinpoint you to your general area (e.g City)

Example:
have a look at http://www.geoiptool.com/en to see how GeoIP location works. It will only give you an approximation.

In this situation, Caution and anonymity is key.

I hope this helps!

Hey Britney,
I just tell you that they will caught you with your IP address. There are many people who make fake ID and play with people's emotions, So i just want to tell you that you just deactivate your account and create new account with your own details. After deactivate your account they can't caught you...
