Xbox 360 not connecting?

just bought a xbox 360 with wifi but it wont connect to my secured wifi. on my modem the wifi light isnt showing up but my laptop connects. i put the password in on my xbox but it wont connect. i even tried to use the xbox wifi adaptor and the on that constantly blinks like its not catching the wifi. ive tried rebooting the main modem/wifi thing and it doesnt connect. any idea/suggestions? I dont have a long enough ethernet/internet router to go from where the wifi is set up to my xbox is set up and i dont have a tv in that room where the internet wifi is set up.

Log into your router with your laptop. Type in the address bar in google chrome or internet explorer: 192.168.0.1 (as most modems have this). Then log in username: admin and password: password. Try to change your wifi settings to suit your xbox 360 needs.
