Rescue a dog from being euthanized at the dog pound, won't be a pure bred but still may have lots of character.

Craigslist.org has dogs for adoption ads but doesn't allow dog for sale ads (there are in san fransisco the city that doesn't allow puppy mill dogs ti be sold at pet shops)

Jake is right. Rescuing a puppy or a dog from animal shelters can be very rewarding. However these places do require adoption fees, which include mandatory neutering. These fees can go from about $300 to $500

Sometimes at the shelters if you are lucky you can get a pure bred especially since there are still many families being evicted from their homes. One of the first things to go is the family pet.

Many of our family pets have been shelter rescues. We rescued a thoroughbred Dalmatian from the government run shelter a few years ago, where some family turned him in. He was listed as 5 years old, because of laws about euthanizing but was barely 1 year.

He is such a joy to be around, and contributes to the family well being everyday. He has trained himself to walk on two legs.Christmas day, he walked from chair to chair in the office unassisted.

If money to acquire is a problem, then you should ask yourself if you have the funds to take care of them. Things like food, vet bills, grooming bills, etc do add up
