what wrong with my internet connection!!!?

well i just got a new wireless internet modem from at&t. i already have a compact wireless adapter and i did not get an Ethernet cable so i tried it. i connected to the internet and i also bought the highest speed of internet connection. so then here is the problem when i play my game that uses internet connection it logs me off because of connection lost so then i went to go check on the status of the internet and it was excellent but i still have lost connection. what is happening?????????????????????? help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make sure your wireless adapter is connected, sometimes your internet connection is working fine but your wireless connection is not
