What do you pay for website hosting?
So I have this idea for a website. I'm going to need unlimited space etc.

I've had a site before, which did well before I shut it down. but that was on a free network.

This time around I'm wanting to look and be more professional.
I've been looking at http://www.ipage.com

I like what they offer but £5+ VAT sounds expensive for an "early days" website.

with this sort of thing, can i cancel it at anytime? or would I have to sign a contract for like 12months?

also if you know of anything cheaper, with all the tools and support and reliability. feel free to share?

You can have cheaper website with minimal cost for beginners and also can cancel anytime. all you have to do is just look for the hosting server terms and conditions. there are many host services do not provide full server side as to avoid huge usage of bandwidth. so you gotta be looking carefully and search generously for a hosting company that provide all above things.

Web hosting is based on 2 areas:

1.Space required (for all your files)
2.Bandwidth needed (used by your viewers)

Good hosting companies allow you to start with a basic package and then be able to upgrade to a higher level when your require it. Costs can start around US$4.00 per month and can be cancelled at any time.

Check out respected hosts such as Hostgator as you don;t need to be in the same country as your host.

The are web hosting companies that provide flexible hosting plan payment terms like monthly, quarterly, annually, every 6 months, every two years and the like. You can try Hostgator for a start but it is not the cheapest option. They have flexible hosting plan payment terms and discounts such as 'EMAILHOSTING' for $0.01 for the first month and 'SERVERHOSTING' for 25% off at any plan.

You can also try other web hosting companies such as:
1. Justhost
2. Myhosting
3. Fatcow

I think £5+ VAT is a bit expensive. There are lots of web hosting companies providing quality hosting service at a cheaper rate.
