Will the price of my domain name renewal go up if my website is successful?
Hi,
I'm building my first website and I would like to know how the price of domain name registration is set when you are renewing a domain name that you already use. I'm concerned that if my site were to become really popular the price could go way up. On a related note if my site was called examplesite.com and it became really popular, would the price of examplesite.org and so on also go up and is there anything I could do to stop rivals from setting up copycat sites with different top level domains (short of buying all the domain names)? Only if the company is hosting as well.

If a registrar charges $20 for, say, a .com domain, then it's $20; it doesn't matter how much site activity there is.
And unless you own the trademark for examplesite, no, you can't block the copycats unless you buy them yourself, and possibly even then. (See the case of nissan.com: http://www.digest.com/Big_Story.php) |
