Can Anyone tell Nature of job of SEM and SEO?

I got a job at synchrony Infotech(http://www.synchrony.co.in) as SEM. now I am working as SEO so please anyone tell me what the different between the SEO and SEM?

SEO means search engine optimization and SEM is search engine marketing.Initially you have to do the basic things of SEO like link building,link exchange then after some time you will create meta tags that is online work.For this you need to ahve the capability to examine the pages,best keywords.And SEM is PPC,putting banners on site.You would have seen some google ads on the site that is PPC which comes under SEM.So to learn SEM you need to know SEO.Both are interlinked.
Read books,keep yourself up to date.Learn more.
