My computer won't download anything anymore?

My computer won't download anything anymore?
I use windows 7.
It used to work fine. I download movies, music, etc. For the past week, whenever I try to download something, it counts up. Instead of saying "5 minutes left... 2 minutes left..." it just goes "5 minute left... 9 minutes... 15 minutes..." Then it stops and says "network error".
It might be internet connection? Or a virus? Cause I thought it was space & I cleaned out my computer to give way to new downloads but it still won't work.
Please help.

What is happening is that the time estimate is based upon the speed of the connection. So as it sits there getting no data or very slow data the time gets longer and longer. Finally it stops the transfer, timing out.

So something is wrong with your connection, for some reason data isn't getting through, at least not very quickly. So troubleshoot your connection: do some speed tests, contact your ISP support, etc.
