Designing website from scratch and adding e commerce functionality?
Ok, so I have been doing a lot of searching and am not finding any clear answers. I am trying to build my small online business (online store), I got my products (some wholesale, some made from home). I can make a website and have no problems designing websites. My question is, can I simply make a website and add shopping cart functionality to it, I seen paypal has this option but there are so many companies out there that offer the whole package (site design with e commerce functionality).

I am looking to just go from scratch build my site how I see fit using my own web designing tools without having to go through a company that will give me templates to choose from. Paypal seems like the only option but there is a mothly fee for the service that allows to pay for multiple items in one shot. Pay Pals basic shopping cart which is based on a percent of the items sale (2.9% + .30) can only pay for one item at a time.

Can someone point me in the right direction for an experienced web designer new to ecommerce (I am trying to be cost effective as well since it is a very small business just starting out).

Thank you,

Hello,

it really depends on your needs.

What you need to keep in mind is when you think Online payment, you need to think security and your clients' trust.

Using known service providers helps to get your clients trust. If you do everything from scratch, you must make sure that it is secure, reliable and fast.

I've written an article on this topic not long ago, you are more than welcomed to read it :

Running a successful online store is much more than just showcasing & updating products. A lot of factors are there which if not properly "tuned" your online business will certainly be a failed project.

If you really want to cut the cost on all different components of the business, get a completely integrated platform which will take care of everything.

Hi!
I would recommend to contact USA-based web design and development company TemplateTuning.com

The guys have 9 years of experience in the field of website development and have a great team of professionals.

You can design your own website, provide PSD files, and TemplateTuning team can help you to integrate e-commerce (Magento, ZenCart, Prestashop, Opencart, Virtuemart or osCommerce, any platform to your liking).
The prices are more than affordable.
Simply fill in the form with project details http://www.templatetuning.com/custom-design/, and you'll be contacted with a price quote in the shortest terms.

There are no monthly fee, the project price is one time fee, and after project completion you'll get a free Technical Support.

I'm not sure this can help you but I have a friend who uses plugins that directly connects to paypal, google check out, clickbank, etc...If you website is built with wordpress, you can definitely use this plugin. If you do not have the idea with what it looks like, just try to visit amazon where you can see plugins like this. See how their products are being paid through it.
