Write a good blog, so people keep coming back.

Once you are 100% confident you have something people want to read, that they can not find elsewhere, more easily, then you can look at driving traffic, either through ads, linksharing, or just general promotion.

If you have good content, Google will find you it's self, make sure you make it easy for Google to find you, have a look at the below website for more details.

Hi Kyle.

Firstly, you obviously need your blog to be well written and actually helpful. If it's not worth reading, the best marketing in the world won't help you.

You should really get your own domain because then you will actually own your site and any traffic it gets, plus people will take you more seriously and will be more likely to link to you.

The process is simple:
Buy a domain with a host who offers installatron & install wordpress via your cpanel. If you are not sure how to do this, find someone on e-lancer or people per hour to do the setup (shouldn't cost a lot).

Long term, the best way to get traffic to your site will probably be SEO, so try to get all of the basics right as you build your blog. It's a steep learning curve, but persevere. Here's a post with everything you need to know:

In the short term there are a few ways that you should be able to generate some good traffic:

Twitter:

Go an follow a load of people who are in your target audience (you can use followerwonk to search profiles and find people to follow). Follow as many people as you can.

Start sending out a few tweets and set up your profile nicely so that people will want to follow you back. You can periodically use justunfollow.com to unfollow people who do not follow you back.

Set up some searches (I use hootsuite) and search for anyone asking computer related questions. When someone does, reply to them with an answer.

Using forums:

Go find as many popular tech/computer forums as you can (also, yahoo answers might work) and find computer related questions (again, setup a saved search to save time), answer lots of questions so that people start to see you as an authority.

Guest posting:

Big topic, so I'm not going to cover it all here, but look into guest posting on popular blogs. Remember that you are going for traffic though, not links. One link on the right blog can send you a lot of new subscribers.

Finally:

Work hard, publish new content often (even when it feels like noone is listening) and keep marketing that content. The first 2-3 months will be hardest, but if you do all of the above you should be getting some traffic soon enough!
