I can't find any news reports or articles about his death other than his date of death and location. I'm beginning to think its a hoax or an accident.

You're answering the question yourself. The mere fact that you can't find anything on a well known person so called having died is a clear indication that he or she hasn't died. Eddy Murphy was supposed to have died sometime last year as well. He died alright. Twitter killed him. The same here now.
