Was someone born 1988-1989 closer on generation to the early 90s babies or early 80s babies?

obviously 90s - well early to mid 90s that is.

Closer to an early 90s baby.
88 and 89 is closer to 90,91, 92 than it is to 80,81,82.
And since a child born in 1988/1989 would be a baby during the early 90s, it's fair to say they were "of the 90s" as they lived in the 90s but they didn't live in the early 80s.

You see all these facebook groups with "if you were a 90s kid you'll remember" - chances are, a child born in 1999 wont know them because most of it was "before their time" despite being born in the 90s.
