How Do I send a direct messege on twitter?

One of the main reasons I got a twitter account was so that I could send a direct messege to the people I follow.However when I click 'direct messege' it comes up a box for the messege i want to write and a drop down bar which is ment to have a list of me followers and the people I follow, right? But it just comes up a blank box, can anyone help? Will setting up a new account resolv this problem?

No sometimes it does that you just have to type it in i had the same problem just type @ then whoever your following...

you can only sent direct messages to people who are folowing you.

if you could sent messages to people your following, the celeberaties would have 100's of messages a day

if you click the down arrow inside the small box on top it will show you who you can DM
if you do the @username it can be seen by everyone and will post to everyone following you but is fun for debate.
You can also respond to post with the left arrow that shows up when you put cuser at right bottom of friend's post also public same as writing @username but less work and the star above arrow is to save as favorite

@example sends a public message to example
D @example should send a DM to example

clicking direct message and finding and clicking "example" in small box above message box after clicking down arrow should also work

go on there account and then go to the sidebar.Then you will see
the word Actions
then click on the word message.
the all you do is type in the message and press sent.

No i find it easier to click on the followers bit and find that follower and do what i told you.

no @username is not a direct message, that's a reply that everyone can see..
a direct message is private and to do this click on "Direct Messages" on your sidebar, and at the top it will say send (drop down menu) a direct message. choose the person from that list, write your message, send.

you can also go to their page and click "message (username)"

Type in the update box: D <space> Username <your message> then click update.

Typing with the letter D at the start of the username automatically sends Direct Message. It will not be visible to others because it is not counted as tweet. It's more like sending a private message
