Why is my bt internet so slow?
this is my bt broadband speed test http://www.speedtest.net/result/3202456656.png

i have the bt unlimited usage package, as you can see the picture says my download speed is 6.92mb but on the bt website it says my bt package download speed is 16mb. And also my ping, when I see most people's speed tests it is something like 10 to 30 ping why is my ping 47? I pay £16 a month for my internet and it's slow as fuck WHY?

Depends how many devices you have connected, and also if you are using wireless to your connection it maybe this that's slowing it down, it will auto adjust the speed down until a usable level of errors is met.Can also depend what sites you are looking at, ftp servers and streaming stuff should be find, but then only 5mb is needed really even for hd and it's usually buffered so you wont notice if it slows a little.
Also the speedtest is a maximum normally, and would not be expected usually, or at peek times such as evening 6-10pm

When taking out a contract you are not actually gauranteed a specific speed, it's "Up to 16MB" this needs to be taken into account, they can do speed tests on your line for the area and estimate exactly what you'll receive.

As a quick troubleshooting method, try resetting the router by turning it off and on again, if you've logged into the administration sections of your device, make sure you reset all features back to factory settings and ensure a clean boot is operated on the device, this elimates all possibilities of it being the device that's the problem.

You'll need to contact BT and ask weather there is a problem within your area or your particular line, and then request an engineer come look at your hardware. They'll also ask that you check other devices, try connecting via Ethernet cable and not wireless, as this can limit performance if you're not using the latest wireless technology on your devices.

The test needs to be run on ethernet connection not wifi
The test needs to be done without any other internet activity

as others have stated most (but not virgin) offer up to speed

http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/b..._area.aspx to compare broadband speeds in your area

If you've been with bt for more than 12months - do the speedtest 3 or 4 times a day at different times (sign up to speedtest to keep the results) for 7 days then use this when you call bt and tell them everything..
1 what your getting on average (speedtest results)
2 who can provide in your area and there offers
and let them reduce your bill and also improve your speed in line with current uk internet "policies"

Virgin will double my 30mbps soon to meet government guidelines but for free
