What is the best way to tell my parents I`m an atheist?
I turned 20 in February and had my doubts about Christianity since middle school, and finally came to the conclusion that I was an atheist when I was around 17. I`m in college obviously but I commute to school so I still live at home, which might pose a small problem. I want positive ways to tell them, nothing like "What you worship is bullshit!" Even though I agree with that, it`s not something you`re supposed to do, especially to your parents. I`m almost positive the rest of my family knows cause I`ve given small hints on social media, and I haven`t told my parents yet for obvious reasons. (pretty difficult) Thanks for the responses.

Well, it will be something hard for them to hear. But you obviously care and want them to know. I would suggest simply sitting down with them for a talk and just telling them. They are going to want to know why, and simply state your reasons why in a timely manner. I'm not sure how they will react, but I know they will most likely be hurt. Try to understand how they feel about it. Something they believe it and raised their son to be, doesn't believe it. They are going to be hurt. But hopefully they will be understand enough to accept it. They are your parents and still love you no matter what.
I'm a Christian (kind of, I hate calling it that), but I'm not hear to preach to you AT ALL. But if you need to talk about anything please do not hesitate to email me; bekahmallette@yahoo.com I'm actually curious as to what made you change your mind. So please, email me, I want to hear! |
