How can I fix this Facebook problem?

On my profile picture my own photos are not appearing in the photo box/section on the left hand side of my timeline. Only tagged photos of me will appear in the box.

I have tried as much as I can editing the settings of my own photos so they appear in the box but I haven't got anywhere.

I have looked on other peoples profiles and in some cases only tagged photos appear and others both tagged and their own photos appear.

So I was wondering how I fix this?

That is the difference when you look at your own Timeline (only tagged pic) & when you look at others Timeline. To prove this, see it yourself. Go to your Timeline, click the gear icon on your cover photo, then click "View as", view it as public or as one of your friend; you'll see different pics in the Photo section than if you as you look at your Timeline.
Bottom line, that's it, you can't change what is shown (actually what you see is sorted from the latest pic tagged to you).
