How did someone, who I am not facebook friends with, suggest a facebook page to me?
I know the person but I am not friends with them on facebook and I did not think they could suggest a page to me but they have? I am wondering how they did so?
Are there any privacy settings I can adjust to prevent this in future?

Yes it is. Just go to the privacy setting under the Account page of Facebook, where you can see the "view setting" option. Click and customize your privacy setting on searching friends on Facebook and click on cancel. So no one can search you on Facebook via email or name.
