Problem with birthdays on Facebook?

So it was my birthday three days ago but I was hiking in the bush and only just got back and checked faceboom today to find out I got no notifications for people writing birthday wishes on my Facebook wall. As I find it hard to believe none of my friends wrote on my wall I tried to find out If I could reply to these. I couldn't find these messages after following the instructions on Facebook forums which included checking activity log and stuff. So now I am here and hope you guys can help. Cheers
