Missing teenage girl. How to find a phone when its missing and shut off?
There is a teenage girl who has been kidnapped in New Hampshire. Her phone last "pinged" or whatever you want to call it near a resort two miles from her home but it was searched with cops, dogs, helicopters.. you name it. She is probably not in the area anymore and her kidnapper might have her phone. Is there any way to turn it on to pick up a cell tower signal or locate it while it is off? I know the cops and FBI are good at what they do but I find it unlikely that they know a lot about "apps" and that sort of thing. Also it is an iphone if that helps. Are there any other good ideas for locating someone who has been kidnapped that you can think of? I am thinking searching garbage bins in the area where her phone was last or bringing dogs to sniff out the neighborhood again since something of her could be in the trash recently but its also possible that she isnt even in the state anymore and her phone just got shut off in that area. I think her family could use all of our help and support! Help find Abigail Hernandez!

This sounds like a prank but its impossible to do that. When a phone is off, all communication hardware and software is off and in order for the phone to receive the command, it needs to have some sort of communication hardware and software on. If would be like trying to control a lamp with your mind.

Ok, this probably isn't her, but the timing of these finding these two questions right next to each other is just too much of a coincidence.

Did you try her friend's attic?

It's been a month. There is no trail left for dogs to track. I'm sure the FBI knows at least as much as you or I about "apps".
