Import tax on items brought into Israel?
Hi
I want to go to Israel in a few months and bring my Dad his CDs in my luggage.

They are Audio CDs without their boxes (due to size/weight I'm leaving the boxes here.)
There are a LOT of them, something like 400.

Would we have any issue with that? (Like, customs telling me that I'm "importing" them and need to pay tax?)
I read some stuff on the official website, but I didn't fully understand it.

Thanks! Smile

I'm thinking someone at customs will wake up, you might consider sending by mail 20-30 at a time in their boxes declaring they are used CDs, sending them by fright (ship) rather then by air mail will be rather cheap.

As far as the law goes....

Now, customs taxes have been eliminated as of January 31 on purchases up to $325 or NIS 1,200, and all purchase taxes on purchases up to a $75 total. It’s important to note that the purchase tax is still levied on many items, including DVDs, CDs, answering machines and cellphones, while the customs tax is now eliminated from all those orders up to $325 — as long as the purchase is for personal use, and the cost of the entire transaction, NIS 1,200, includes shipping.

It's not exactly alcohol and tobacco or electronics
Just keep them on one (or a few) of those tallest writable cd holders.

I didn't mean to be rude..but importing some CD? Why not just copy the songs and send them via email from your second email. By the time you're in Israel..just find some free wifi and open up the email and save them on your music devices. Use the money to buy something else instead. Just my opinion.. Smile
