Does Facebook show you available to chat if you have the app on your phone?

On my laptop I have the settings to "off chat" because I often don't like to read messages I get right away, I want to read other things going on on Facebook, but I don't want to seem rude if other people see that I'm online. In December I got a new cellphone, and normally I don't use cellphones for anything other than calling and texting. But I have the facebook app now and it seems that whenever I'm on my phone on Facebook I get much more messages. If it's true that it shows that I'm online on chat, how can I fix that? Or can I even fix that?

If you turned off your chat on facebook via computer than your chat should actually be turned off on your phone too until you turn it back on. However if it's not, the facebook app should have the chatting application on it and there is an option you can press on the chat screen to go offline.
