can people in china access the deep web?
is it even possible that a person living in the PRC could use TOR to access the internet and not be caught? what level of internet access do they have if not tor, could a dedicated person go around the communist parties internet censorship?
great! the third poster knows a lot. now, suppose one were to access something such as wikileaks thru the vpn method described, or say a very anti-PRC site, or military information on the PRC, or say something even more damning such as oh some homemade munitions, what would happen (to the person)?

The CCP controls everything. There's little freedom on the internet. What they don't want you to see is blocked. Not sure if a VPN will work there or not.

Yes, VPN's work in China. I used the same one while I lived there and very seldom had problems. When I did, I was able to get an email to my VPN provider and they ramped up their program for me to gain access again.

The US Embassy uses a layer of EIGHT VPNs to protect their work. Those eight are constantly shifted and changed. Makes things very, v-e-r-y, v-----e-----r-----y slow, but it's effective.

Anyone with money to pay for VPN providers is able to get one.

as far as I know, if your affiliated with a foreign University, you can have full access to their employee VPN service, it should be free, and you will have absolute internet freedom even in China because you are rerouting your traffic through secured virtual private networks...

OK, EVEN IF YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONNECTION WITH ANY FOREIGN ENTITIES WHATSOEVER, YOU CAN STILL ACCESS INTERNET FREELY IN CHINA, HERE IS HOW:

1. CREATE AN APP ON GOOGLE APP ENGINE.

2. DOWNLOAD GOAGENT (https://code.google.com/p/goagent/)

3. FOLLOW THE STEPS INSTRUCTED IN THE GO AGENT FILES AND SET UP YOUR GOOGLE PROXY/VPN.

4. WALLA ! DONE. ALL CHINESE PEOPLE IN CHINA CAN FREELY ACCESS INTERNET WATCH YOUTUBE, FACEBOOK YOU NAME IT...

5. THAT'S WHY ONLY THE NOOBS GET BLOCKED IN CHINA... MOST CHINESE PEOPLE MANAGE TO CONNECT TO THE REST OF WORLD JUST FINE.

Access to Internet in China is not as strict as years around 2000. Chinese people cannot access to Google directly because google.cn has no longer exist, but they can load to google.hk. People with vpn have no trouble to access to Internet anywhere in the world, and do not fear to be caught, except they left some words aimed at the Chinese government or provoke it.

P.S. I'm in China and I am using a VPN.
