Same as the telephone. It's there for business use. Describing yourself on Y!A when you are supposed to be working is normally a sackable offence.

Depends where you work but most places it is instant dismissal if you are not using the net for work use.

Depends. Are you the one setting the rules or are you the end user? If you are the end user you should ask just to make sure. Obviously if sites are blocked like facebook, youtube, etc don't try and get around them using proxies and such as that will an easy way to get terminated. Better safe than sorry

Depends what kind of workplace you are in.
E.g. A number of workplaces ban social networks yet an increasing number encourage their staff to use them.

Simply ask your company, usually the rules are explicit about that in the company handbook or whatever form the company publishes its rules. Also remember the email system is theirs and they can monitor it.
