I cant access the internet..keeps saying internet explorer has stopped working?
My sons computer has suddenly stopped working.

It is very very slow.
Everytime I enter something I leave the room and go and do something until it registers.

I cannot access the internet.

I cant do much at all...as everytime i try it comes up internet explorer has stopped working.

I have searched the net for solutions, but it just wont allow me to proceed.

It has AVG on it, but when I click on it, it comes up with internet explorer has stopped working.

I cant restore..same message

I cant open internet explorer.....same message

Any ideas on how to help a not techinal minded mum fix this problem
Thanks for the replies so far

it is a desktop computer
it is wifi access

I have tried starting in safe mode but still cant access the internet

I have tried shutting down and restarting

I have tried to restore it back to an earlier date...but same message keeps coming up

How do I use a different browser if I can get onto the internet?

thanks again everyone, I really appreciate your time

Sounds as if there may be some viruses on the computer. Since you can't access the internet, you should probably ask a computer savvy friend for assistance, or take it to a local computer repair shop and have them get it cleaned up. Then be sure your son is very aware of going to links he's unfamiliar with and getting viruses. Ask whoever does get the computer cleaned up and working again, to recommend and install some anti virus software, and teach you how to use it. Being able to access the internet is very important for receiving important updates for any anti virus software.

Hi
I suspect that your problem is not going to solved by me - or anybody else with one post.

If the machine is slow and you cannot access the internet you will not be able to download anything.
( normally )
Try this:
Switch the machine on and immediately start tapping F8 about once per second.
You will be taken to the Advanced Startup Options.
Select Safe Mode with Networking.

When it boots up the graphics will look a bit odd - this is normal for Safe Mode.

If you can access the internet now download Malwarebytes from here:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
You want the free version.

Install it > update it > run it.
Let it delete all that it finds.

If it does find malware you still need specialist help to check your system over.
I can recommend the guys at http://www.freepchelp.co.uk

You need continuity with thus particular problem.
Only being able to post once is not really going to help you here.
Hopefully MBAM will go some way Smile

Reboot computer and see it that works. If windows 8 and still doesn't work the try and restore computer back to a time before your problems started [ no files or programs will be deleted]. I will walk you through it. Click Settings [charm bar] Click Control Panel then click Recovery click Open System Restore then go to bottom and click Choose a different Restore Point and in window look for a Restore Point back before trouble started and click it then click Next and computer will reset it back to what computer was exactly like at time of restore you clicked Good Luck. Oh It will take about 1 hour to finish.
