Is this a good idea for a new website? Making friends locally online?

I knowww there are plenty of dating sites where you can also try to make friends, but honestly, people use dating sites to find dates/boyfriends/girlfriends.

I always feel like I have no friends, and I see people all over the internet in various other states post online that they have no friends. I have an idea for a website. It would be only for the purpose of making friends LOCALLY, and it will not have the "feel" of an online dating website.

I just feel like people who are in relationships but don't have friends outside of that are too afraid to go on "dating sites" to make friends, because then they're boyfriend/girlfriend will think they are trying to cheat. And most dating sites online are used for getting dates, not just finding friends.

I want to make a website dedicated to EXCLUSIVELY finding friends locally. I feel like some people are loners, and really need to find friends (including me lol). It will also include the option for people to make "hang out groups" based on certain subjects. It's like college/high school clubs, but this is not limited to college/high school students, it will be for everyone to see and join. I also feel like allowing high school students to sign up for this website, since it is not for dating purposes. So like, anyone can just start a "group". Say they are interested in poetry, and love discussing it, then they can just tell their available times, suggest locations, and start a group quickly and see if anyone wants to join (locally), so they can make friends. And people can search for people as well.

I guess the only similarity between this and a dating site would be the search option. Like, people will be able to select what gender they want to search for, and age range. This is because, like if females want to hang out with other females and talk about girly stuff, then they should be able to search just for females. Or if an 18 year old wants to hang out with other 18 year olds, they can search for that age group.



Is there already such a website in existence?
Can you please give me link?
Cuz I would love to use that kind of website.

Use the search bar at the top of Facebook. Type something like 18 year women in <your city> who like <something you like>. Read their profiles and send them messages.
